ROBBERY / INCIDENT SURPRESSION
SPECIAL SERVICES GROUP has significant experience in providing Robbery Suppression Services to the financial industry. Our Robbery Suppression Detail provides pro-active patrol directed at the suppression of a robbery and provide a visible deterrent to potential threats.
They conduct zero-tolerance operations featuring potential suspect contacts, and the vigorous identification and reporting of potential robbery subjects. The core philosophy of robbery suppression is prevention opposed to apprehension. Statistics have proven that a pro-active approach and established security elements can not only prevent the act, but provide a much needed mechanism in the event that an Armed Robbery should occur. In February 1993, a large US bank began employing the first true robbery suppression teams. By the end of that same year the number of bank robberies in their branches was reduced by over 60%.
Statistics nationwide revealed that the number of bank robberies rose from 6,599 in 1999, to 7,127 in 2000 and 8,259 in 2001. The FBI reports that “Since Sept. 11, the trend has been toward more violent robberies.” About 40 percent of bank robberies now include weapons. In the Los Angeles area, criminal “master-planners” are increasingly orchestrating robberies carried out by gang members. This method has led to 205 “violent takeover robberies” in 2001, a 31 percent jump over 2000. Roughly 30 percent of robberies in the LA area are now violent, up by 17 percent. The rise in hold-ups, including violent ones, may stem from several factors, including the wobbling economy and job loss that is creating more desperation and criminals knowing that police are overwhelmed, undermanned, and under-funded in the wake of Sept. 11. Also, repeat offenders from the late 1980s and 1990s are now being released and are committing similar criminal activities again.
Our Strategy consists of many proactive initiatives and security measures that can deter and often prevent a critical incident from occurring. Special Services Group is reducing that loss by minimizing the exposure of the financial institution through the implementation of pro-active security and loss-control programs. Some of those strategies are a proven method of deterrence and an effective means to minimizing loss. These strategies are designed to prevent these crimes and to mitigate risks to our clients, their employees and customers.
There are times in business when the need arises for special protective services due to unexpected events. We refer to this as "crisis intervention" and they are usually high threat level situations. A business, for example, may go through certain sequences such as layoffs, mergers, labor disputes which could escalate to threats of violence among personnel or management, or acts of Terrorism directed at a company or its staff and management. The other forms of crisis can come by the unexpected event that Mother Nature unleashes in the form of a Natural Disasters (i.e. Earthquakes, Fires, Hurricanes, and Tornadoes), in densely populated areas.
In these cases our team of specially trained personnel (Special Services Responders) may be used to protect owners, executives, other management personnel, and their distressed property. Often a crisis intervention team acts much like Peace Keeping Forces, working with numerous factions to diffuse anger and potential violence, restoring peace and law and order to areas where public resources have been depleted, or are not available at all. SPECIAL SERVICES GROUP advisors will assist our clientele and provide the tools necessary for the safe recovery during and after a crisis, in order for the customer to resume business, with minimal loss.
